City of Alton Municipal Band met Aug. 20.

Julie McPike called the board meeting of the Alton Municipal Band to order at 6:33pm.
Members Present: David Drillinger, Linda Fergurson, Mike Fergurson, Anne Lovelace, Julie McPike, Kasey Oglesby
Members Absent: Larry Ashlock, Melissa Bock, Debbie Kelley, Ex-Officio Members Present: Jennifer Shenberger
Approval Items
1. Minutes – Kasey Oglesby motioned to accept the minutes from the July 9, 2020 meeting. Mike Fergurson seconded. 6 yays, 0 nays. Motion passed.
2. Financials – David Drillinger motioned to approve the bills listed below to be paid. Linda Fergurson seconded. 6 yays, 0 nays. Motion passed.
• $768.50 to Schwartzkopf Printing for fans
• $100 to Sign Magic for concert signs
• 8/2 concert payroll
• 8/12 “Wreaths Across America” musicians
• September Farmers’ Markets
Informational Items
1. Brass Quintet played for “Wreaths Across America” on August 12, 2020 at Riverfront Park. Margaret Hopkins was the organizer. Excellent opportunity and was well received by the traveling group.
2. Farmer’s Market is open through mid-October. Brass Quintet is willing to play twice, once in September and once in October. Possibility for Martha Roberts and Gail Drillinger to play again. Bud Schultz has been contacted about bringing in a Jazz group. Any other ensembles welcome, contact David Drillinger if interested.
3. Ensemble music has been ordered as per previously approved amount ($1200). 4. No information yet as to the soloist stage at Riverview Park. David Drillinger to contact the contractor.
Discussion Items
1. Storage Facility – discussed renting and consolidating all our equipment. Martha Roberts is working on the purchase of a building, as well as looking into security.
2. Advertising – discussed adding Instagram and Twitter to our advertising program. Kasey Oglesby will look into this, and Julie McPike willing to assist. Discussed possibly having one dedicated person in charge of social media advertising. Checking with Melissa Bock about a city credit card to pay for this advertising.
3. Board Nominations – the following people have expressed interest in filling the board openings. Due date of September 1, 2020. We will send our recommendations for appointment to the board to the Mayor’s office next month.
