State Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Vandalia) feels Gov. J.B. Pritzker is well deserving of the “most dangerous governor in America” moniker he’s tagged him with largely based on his handling of the state’s Prisoner Review Board (PRB).
“We have numerous instances where the victims, the victims' families, the prosecutors, the judges aren’t even being informed that this [a prisoner's release] happened. And so there’s real transparency issues across the entire process,” Plummer told Breitbart.
Critics charge many of the problems stem from the way the governor has handled PRB business over the last two years, including using whatever loopholes he could to bypass the standard appointee process for the board in order to install his own hand-picked choices. Breitbart reports one of the newest board members is a man convicted of a double homicide.
As for the string of controversial early releases, in one instance, the family of Montral Fleming claims his killer, Tewkunzi Green, was released from prison 22 years early when Pritzker signed a “commutation of sentencing order” without notifying the victim’s family.
State Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro), who once worked in the Illinois Department of Corrections, insists her office is now working on legislation that would close all the notification loopholes and make it a crime if the families of victims are not alerted. Bryant said she is working to figure out how many people have been released under the Pritzker administration.
Bryant said while the governor’s office is “making sure that criminals are treated fairly…they seem to have absolutely no care at all if the victims' families are treated fairly.”
