Peggy Hubbard is vowing to be the antithesis of Tammy Duckworth in her run for the U.S. Senate.
“I promise the people of Illinois, you will have a fighter,” Hubbard said in a Facebook post. “In order to lead a state, you need heart. I will not break, I will not bend. I don't belong to Country Club Republicans. From Englewood to Cairo, I will not ignore you the way Tammy Duckworth has.”
Hubbard listed the planks of her platform: "America first, defend the police, protect your 2nd Amendment rights, stop federal funding for CRT, term limits, smaller government, keeping the filibuster, voter I.D., slowing government spending and defunding Planned Parenthood."
A 56-year-old retired Navy officer, Hubbard ran in the Republican primary for the senate in 2020. She insists she plans to bring a different viewpoint to D.C.
“I’ve been poor, I know what it’s like to worry about your children’s futures,” she told McDonoughVoice.com. “I’m living paycheck to paycheck like a lot of Illinoisans are. These politicians do not live in the real world we live in. They’re here for their personal interests.”
The mother of six, Hubbard said she joined the Republican Party in 2014 after having twice voted for President Obama and is now totally committed to putting the voter ahead of everything else.
“I’m not beholden to the Republican Party,” she said. “I am beholden to the people who are going to put me in the seat. If it’s not right for the people, I’m not going to budge on it.”
