Men's Bowling Places Ninth at 2022 Kegel/ISBPA Collegiate Classic

McKendree University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 16

McKendree University men's bowling opened the 2022 calendar year here this weekend by finishing ninth overall out of nine teams at the 2022 Kegel/ISBPA Collegiate Classic held at the Stardust Bowl.

 

The Bearcats amassed a total off 9,415 pins to finish in ninth place overall as they were 41 pins behind eighth place University of the Cumberlands (9,456) and 97 pins in front of 10th place Lincoln Memorial University (9,318).

 

At the Kegel/ISBPA Classic, the Bearcats opened by scoring a total of 5,237 pins in Saturday's five individual games to sit in eighth place, including recording a high of 1,142 in the fourth game.

 

In Sunday's 20 Baker games, the Bearcats recorded a total of 4,178 pins to sit in eighth place and when combining both days, the Bearcats recorded a total of 9,415 pins in 50 games and averaged 188.3 pins per game.

 

St. Ambrose took home the team title with a total of 10,021 pins as they scored 5,550 pins in Saturday's action, before recording 4,471 pins in the Baker games. SCAD-Savannah finished in second place with a total of 9,773 pins as they had 5,517 and 4,256 pins respectively, while Wichita State was third with a total of 9,644 pins as the Shockers had 5,320 in Saturday's action, before recording 4,324 pins in the Baker games.

 

The top Bearcat individual bowler was freshman Matthew LaBonte (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) as he recorded a total of 1,123 pins in Saturday's five individual games to finish in 18th place of 336 bowlers. LaBonte had four games of 200, including a high of 276 in the fourth game.

 

In addition to LaBonte, Jorge Rodriguez (Yauco, P.R./Lincoln Memorial) finished 26th with a pinfall total of 1,106 for five games. Rodriguez had four games of 200, including a high of 265 in the fourth game.

 

Junior Jake Feher (Levitttown, Pa./Pennsbury) posted an 89th place finish as he recorded a total pinfall of 1,010 and had two games of 200 or more, including a high of 240 in the first game.

 

Sophomore Connor Brink (Rochester, NY/Monroe County) recorded a total of 1,002 pins to finish in 96th place overall. Brink had two games of 200 or better with a high of 217 in the third game.

 

The final Bearcat bowler was graduate student Peyton Smith (Loganville, Ga./Emmanuel College), who recorded a total pinfall of 996 and had 200 or better in four games, including a high of 212 in the fourth game.

St. Ambrose's Cameron Crowe was the individual champion as he recorded a total pinfall of 1,233, while Midland's Tyler Hunter was second with 1,229 pins and SCAD-Savannah's Tyrell Ingalls was third with 1,224 total pins.

 

The Bearcats will return back to the lanes on Feb. 5-6 as they compete in the McKendree Baker Games at the St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill.
