Bourne: 'More lies from Pritzker' on mask mandates

Averybourne8004

State Rep. Avery Bourne (R-Litchfield) accuses Gov. J.B. Pritzker of misleading the public on mask mandates.

“More lies from Pritzker," Bourne said in a post to Facebook, “we can remove statewide mandates now and leave it up to local government, like we should have done from the beginning."

Last week, Pritzker hinted at the possibility of removing mask requirements "as soon as we possibly can," amid declining coronavirus cases in Illinois.

Last week, a judge in Sangamon County issued a temporary restraining order against Pritzker, IDPH and multiple school districts stopping the mask mandates and rules around vaccination and testing for teachers. Pritzker has vowed to fight this ruling.

Bourne is running for lieutenant governor on the ticket with Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin in his GOP run for governor, both candidates have vowed to “restore Illinois and take it back from the corrupt Pritzker-Madigan machine."

Late last month, Bourne tweeted, "proud to be running with this historic team. Together, we will work together to reduce crime, fight corruption and return fiscal responsibility for the people of this great state."

According to her campaign website, Bourne has made a priority of fighting against tax hikes, along with cleaning up corruption, and taking a stand against police defunding initiatives.

"I became the youngest person to be sworn into the Illinois State legislature in 2015," she said. "I've fought for pro-growth policies to help families and small businesses. I love Illinois, and look forward to working with Richard to revitalize our state."

Irvin and Bourne have gained endorsements from former Sangamon County Sheriff Neil Williamson, Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva), and Rep. Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield).

"I'm grateful for so many local, state, and national Republican leaders who care so deeply about Illinois like I do and want to work to make it a better place for all," Bourne wrote in a Jan. 18 tweet. "We're just getting started."
