In a Sept. 6 Facebook post, Rep. Amy Elik confirmed a prescription drug drop-off event at the Wood River Police Department.

Elik was elected to the Illinois House in 2020, according to the Illinois House website. A Republican, her legislative experience consists of serving on the Transportation: Regulation, Roads, Revenue and Finance Committee among others.

"Tomorrow I am co-hosting a free prescription drug drop-off event with the Wood River Police Department from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.," Elik said on Facebook. "This free service is a good opportunity for people to safely dispose of their expired and unwanted medications as it is unsafe to throw away or flush many medications."

Elik, who lives in Fosterburg, Illinois, shared some insight on her activities as a state legislator in a recent Metro East Sun article.

"The summer has been busy with events, meetings and advocacy for constituents,” she said. “Each day my office staff and I work on a wide variety of constituent services, policy issues and pressing topics that affect peoples’ lives. Therefore, the job is always engaging and interesting and there is never a dull moment.”

Elik said she frequently attends meetings in several locations.

“I’m often popping in and out of the office as I frequently go to meetings off-site,” she said. “I love being able to meet with groups, businesses and nonprofits in their offices so that I’m out and about in the community as much as possible."

The prescription drug drop-off event took place Sept. 7 at the Wood River Police Department, 550 E. Madison Ave., in Wood River. Prescription drugs, ointments, patches, pet medications and vitamins were taken. Needles, illegal drugs, and liquids were prohibited from being dropped off.
