McKendree University men's D1 hockey went 1-1 on the weekend but got its first victory of the season on Friday night, taking down Waldorf in overtime, 5-4. Game one featured a breakout contest for freshman forward Cade Rosansky, who fired two goals and dished-off one assist in the win. McKendree dropped game two of the weekend, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 | Friday, September 30
The Bearcats entered the weekend looking for a break-out game and for their first victory of the 2022-23 season, both of which were had in the outing.
The opening period of the weekend was a null 20 minutes with no scoring between the Warriors and Bearcats. The second 20 minutes of action was an offensive showing from both teams with five combined goals, leaving McKendree up by one score at the second intermission.
Waldorf fired the first goal of the game nearly a minute and a half into the second 20 minutes of play. McKendree tied the game up six and a half minutes into the period with a score by the forward Rosansky, his first collegiate goal. He was assisted by freshman forward Joe McCormick and senior forward Ryan Radke. Waldorf scored a second goal to lead 2-1 in the 10th minute but the Bearcats waited just three minutes to knot the game up at two goals a piece. The Bearcats' second goal came from sophomore forward Nikita Eruslanov, who received a pass from junior forward Price Dworin. McKendree went up 3-2 over the Warriors in the 15th minute of the second period with freshman forward Alex Kent firing the goal off a dish-out from junior defenseman Jerry Pan.
In the third period, McKendree went up two goals, 4-2, with a score 10 minutes into the final regulation period. The fourth goal of the night came from Eruslanov, his second of the night, via pass from Rosansky. Waldorf cut the lead to just one goal with a score in the 12th minute and then tied the game at four goals a piece in the 16th. Regulation ended 4-4 between the Bearcats and Warriors, leading to overtime.
In the fourth minute of the first overtime period, the freshman Rosansky too the puck from end-to-end, firing the game-winning score for the Bearcats. McKendree won its first game of the year with the 5-4 result over the Warriors.
Freshman Dylan Dallaire played full time in the net with 49 saves on the night.

Game 2 | Saturday, October 1
Game two of the weekend opened with the Bearcats looking for back-to-back wins, but the hosting-Warriors played out a tough game to split the weekend with McKendree. Waldorf took game two on a 4-2 count.
McKendree and Waldorf were tied at one goal each with the conclusion of the first period, as freshman forward Rycol Davis fired the first goal off an assist by Radke and freshman forward Ben Anderson.
McKendree's final score came from junior forward Karsten Portell, who was assisted by junior winger Steven Brachert and junior forward Brad Richardson.
The Warriors proceeded to fire two goals in the fourth period, taking the second outing of the weekend, 4-2.
