At its March 14 meeting, The Glen Carbon Village Board reviewed the final version of its newest strategic plan, which they had been working on for some time. James Arndt from Arndt Municipal Support presented an overview of the city’s three-year strategic plan to the board. Earlier in the year, board members spent a day coming up with their goals, focuses, and mission statements for the 2023 strategic plan. They contacted Arndt for support in curating the final plan, which involved input from village staff and board members.
Arndt shared the final outcome of the planning sessions, starting with the new mission statement: Provide a high quality of life in a safe and thriving community.
The village had come up with six main goals, ranked in order of priority, with department heads managing each of them to ensure progress and oversight.
The goals were Infrastructure Improvements with seven objectives, public safety with eight objectives, parks and recreation, specifically expanding opportunities through the 11 opportunities, community development had ten objectives, marketing and advertising the village with eight objectives, and finally resources for city employees. These goals are listed in order of priority, with Infrastructure being voted 5/5 for importance, and the last three being rated under 4/5.
The board was told the plan met five A’s: Achievable, Assignments, Authority, Action, and Accountability. The objectives chosen were ones that the board had the resources to complete, and officials have assigned these goals to department heads and team members that can complete them.
"We really enjoyed getting together and setting the priorities for the village," Glen Carbon mayor Robert Marcus said. "I think this is a wonderful exercise to help establish the vision for the trustees and to give us direction. I really appreciate and look forward to see you again in several years when we can see how we did and see where we next go."
In other news, the village is planning its annual Easter egg hunt for the afternoon of April 4.
