State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) took to Facebook on May 5 to express his support for the 2023 Illinois Police Memorial Event.

"Yesterday was the 2023 Illinois Police Memorial event, mourning the loss and celebrating the lives of those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2022," Davidsmeyer said.

He provided additional comments and posted several photos regarding the memorial for the fallen officer in a news release issued on May 7.

"Thursday was the 2023 Illinois Police Memorial event, mourning the loss and celebrating the lives of those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2022," Davidsmeyer said in the press release.

"So proud to support my friends in law enforcement and all who work to keep our communities safe," he said. "To the families, I can’t pretend to understand your loss. I thank you for your sacrifice and am here with you as you find your way."

The Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee maintains a comprehensive archive of officers who have lost their lives while serving in the line of duty, back to 1903, when it commemorated the passing of Chicago Police Officer Joseph Driscoll on Dec. 1 of that year.

Davidsmeyer, who began his term in the House of Representatives in December 2012, was born and raised in Jacksonville. Prior to his role as a representative, he was a member of the Jacksonville City Council, and a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and Library Board.
