City of Edwardsville Public Safety Committee met March 28

The Edwardsville Public Safety Committee meeting was called to order by Alderwoman Janet Stack at 5:30 p.m. in the Governor Edwards Conference Room, 118 Hillsboro Avenue with a quorum present: Alderwoman Janet Stack, via Zoom and Alderwoman Jennifer Warren. Alderman Chris Farrar was excused.

Motion by Alderwoman Jennifer Warren, second by Alderwoman Stack to allow Alderwoman Stack to participate remotely. Motion carried, Stack and Warren voted aye.

Public Comment: N/A

Approval of Minutes:

• Motion by Alderwoman Stack, second by Alderwoman Warren to approve minutes from the Public Safety Committee meeting held Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Motion carried, Stack and Warren voted aye.

Police Department:

Action Item(s):

• Approval of a Resolution of the City of Edwardsville Authorizing the Execution of the Illinois Telecommunicator Emergency Response Task Force Intergovernmental Agreement

Chief Fillback explained this is a mutual aid agreement that allows participating communities to share dispatchers in times of great need during significant events. This is the dispatcher's version of the fire service MABAS or law enforcement ILEAS statewide agreements.

Motion by Alderwoman Stack, second by Alderwoman Warren for an approval of a Resolution of the City of Edwardsville Authorizing the Execution of the Illinois Telecommunicator Emergency Response Task Force Intergovernmental Agreement. Motion carried, Stack and Warren voted aye.

Fire Department:

Action Item(s):

• Approval of a Resolution Authorizing the Fire Department to Apply for the 2022 Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant to Increase Staffing by Three (3) Positions

Chief Whiteford explained this a federally funded grant designed to increase the number of firefighters. If awarded the request will offset salary and benefits costs for three firefighter/paramedic positions for three years.

Motion by Alderwoman Stack, second by Alderwoman Warren for an approval of a Resolution Authorizing the Fire Department to Apply for the 2022 Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant to Increase Staffing by Three (3) Positions. Motion carried, Stack and Warren voted aye.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the Public Safety Committee is Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Motion to adjourn by Alderwoman Warren, second by Alderwoman Stack. With no further business at hand the meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p.m. Motion carried, Stack and Warren voted aye.
