City of Edwardsville Campus to Community Committee met May 16
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Call to Order: 5:03 p.m.
Present: Chairman Chad Verbais, Kelly Obernuefemann, Joel Hardman, Karen Kaufman, Lori Huntley, Earleen Patterson and Paul Pitts
Also Present: James Arnold and Desiree Gerber
Absent: Barrett Larkin, Liz Delaney and Lauren Harris
Citizens wishing to address the Group: None.
Joel Hardman made a motion to move the meeting to the Governor Ford Conference Room, so the committee could use the computer and monitor in that room. Paul Pitts seconded the motion, and all were in favor. James Arnold remained downstairs for five minutes in case anyone was late and needed to be directed to the correct room.
Review April Minutes: Joel Hardman made a motion to approve the April minutes and Lori Huntley seconded the motion. All were in favor of approving the minutes.
Financial Report: Karen reported that the year-end balance is $3,462.30, and the beginning of the fiscal year started this month with $11,800.00, which is a 1.7% reduction.
Edwardsville Art Fair Banner Contest: Chad reported that he met with the EAC Director, who gave him EAC Banner Contest Flyers. He hung flyers around campus during late April, and EAC is supposed to be contacting the art professors. There is some concern in regards to the lack of promotion of this contest. Chad has two children in District 7 and has yet to see anything about the contest. The information is being shared with those who participate in the Saturday morning Arts in the Park.
There was discussion in regards to what this money could be used for rather than the banner contest, and possibly applying for grant money in conjunction with a not for profit SIUE group, such as the Meridian Society. The applications go out in December with $8,000 as the maximum grant awarded. Earleen suggested calling Seth Walker to find out about other potential not for profit groups to partner with to obtain a grant.
Wildey promotion: Al said that students are participating, but he did not know numbers. We will reevaluate in December.
SIUE/City postcard mailing: Proofing is scheduled May 29 through June 15. Once that is complete, they will send Chad a pdf to review and get feedback from committee members. The June meeting will be canceled due to the participation in the new student orientation. Chad will share the pdf via email for feedback.
Video: Chad emailed the Chancellor, but he did not have availability. The two previous videos were edited and combined with some additional footage. The video is approximately 10 minutes in length. Chad played the updated video for the committee, and asked for feedback. Committee members were receptive with positive comments in regards to the video.
Joel Hardman made a motion to spend $440 for Brandon Rice to edit, splice and produce for the new student orientation video, and Lori Huntley seconded the motion. All were in favor and motion passed.
New Student Orientation at SIUE: Chad will get the dates to the committee. Chad can do all of the dates but June 9. The new student orientations will be Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays beginning May 30 and throughout June and July 20 and 21. There will be a preview day on July 24. We will have a table for the City at the exhibit fair. 2:10 p.m.to 2:40 p.m. will be the presentation time for the CCC.
Wheels & Walk future plans: There was discussion whether this event even appeals to students, or is there a different type of event. James explained that the Bike and Hike already had over 350 registered with a target audience of cyclist and community members interested in the Goshen Community Market.
The idea of a Thursday night rather than a Saturday was revisited. A battle of the bands at Korte Stadium was also discussed. Kelly suggested doing a student survey. Chad did not know the mechanism of getting the survey out to students. The possible date discussed last month was Thursday, September 14. Paul thought an event at Vadalabene could be a possibility with doing a Thursday night event tied to a Friday night sporting event. James suggested doing a red and white hockey exhibition at the R. P. Lumber Center, which is off the bike trail.
Other Business
Rotary Student of the Month: Liz was not present to report.
New ideas for Community Traditions, Bring Campus into the Edwardsville Community Ideas, and Bring Edwardsville Community to Campus Ideas: Bands at Korte as mentioned earlier.
Next meeting: The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 5 p.m. in the Governor Ford Conference Room at City Hall. Chad reported that the June meeting will be canceled.
Adjournment: Lori Huntley made a motion to adjourn, Joel Hardman seconded the motion and all were in favor. The meeting adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
