State Representative Amy Elik of the 111th district has released her sixteenth update to the citizens, providing an overview of her recent activities and upcoming plans.

During the summer and fall, Elik and her office staff have been actively engaged in in-district activities and outreach. This included holding traveling office hours throughout the district, where they met with constituents to discuss various issues and help resolve problems with state agencies. Elik emphasized that her office is always available to assist constituents, even though the traveling office hours have concluded.

One notable event that Elik organized was a Citizens Utility Board (CUB) event at Senior Services Plus in Alton. CUB is a non-profit organization that advocates for residential and small-business utility customers. The event provided an opportunity for individuals to meet with CUB advisors and review their utility bills. Elik highlighted the success of the event, stating that "everyone who met with a CUB advisor came away with suggestions on how to lower their utility bills." She encouraged constituents to contact CUB directly for assistance.

In addition to these activities, Elik has been actively involved in the community, attending and speaking at various events such as business and non-profit organization meetings, ribbon cuttings, open houses, and school visits. Notably, she sponsored legislation that made Constitution Day a commemorative holiday for Illinois schools, and she had the opportunity to engage with students about federal and state government.

Looking ahead, Elik announced that she will be hosting a prescription drug disposal event on October 18th at the Glen Carbon Police Department. This event aims to provide a safe and convenient way for individuals to dispose of their old and unused medications.

Elik also addressed the issue of professional licensing in Illinois, highlighting the excessive delays in issuing licenses by the state Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. She assured constituents that she is actively advocating for a resolution and offered her assistance to those who have been waiting for a long time.

Veto session dates were also mentioned in the update, with Elik stating that she will be returning to Springfield to discuss the bills vetoed by the Governor. She expressed her commitment to reviewing and considering new legislation during this time.

Looking even further into the future, Elik mentioned that she is already working on bills for the spring 2024 session. She acknowledged the input and ideas brought forward by constituents and emphasized the importance of starting early on the drafting process. She explained that drafting bills can be time-consuming, but she is determined to be prepared for the spring session.
