City of Edwardsville Campus to Community Committee met Sept. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Call to Order: 5:05 p.m.

Present: Chairman Chad Verbais, Kelly Obernuefemann, Joel Hardman, Lori Huntley, Tim Bell, Rebecca Loftus and Anna Krienert

Also Present: Desiree Gerber

Absent: Liz Delaney, Earleen Patterson, MacKenzie Richards, Karen Kaufman and Paul Pitts

Citizens wishing to address the Group: None.

New Members: Becca Loftus, second year pharmacy school student representing Kimmel as a pharmacy senator and Anna Krienert, third year pharmacy school student representing Kimmel both introduced themselves to the committee members. Each committee member present then introduced himself/herself.

Review August Minutes: Lori Huntley made a motion to approve the August minutes and Tim Bell seconded the motion. All were in favor of approving the minutes.

Financial Report: Chad reported that the Art Fair banners cost $3,320.06 leaving a balance of $8,479.94. However, we also had an expense from Maholo Shave Ice in the amount of $826.00, which actually leaves a balance of $7,653.84.

Edwardsville Art Fair Banner Contest: Chad reported that there was a reception for the Art Fair banner contest participants. Carolyn apologized that the CCC did not know about it until after it took place. The banners are up in the City and Chad is working on getting them put up on campus.

Sweet Treat Social: Chad reported that the Sweet Treat Social took place move-in weekend, and Karen and Liz worked together to get a sign showing that it was sponsored by the Campus to Community Committee. The students enjoyed themselves.

New Faculty Orientation: Thank you to Joel for staffing the new faculty orientation which happened at the last minute. Some new faculty stopped by and it went fine.

Welcome to Edwardsville Sign-Home of SIUE Cougars? LCCC?: Chad talked about wanting to do this during the last meeting. These would be nice signs, but IDOT controls those areas. Dr. Waple is doing community relations stuff and the Chancellor is also interested in having signs place by the welcome to Edwardsville signs, so this is being explored. The signs are costly, but SIUE has been communicating with IDOT. They are also working on getting a mural in downtown, and it is on the City Council agenda this evening.

Wildey promotion: The Wildey promotions is still taking place on Tuesday evenings. If students show their id, then they get in to the movie for $1.

Preview SIUE: This will take place October 9, October 28, and November 10 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Goshen Lounge. Chad said will staff a table on October 9 and November 10, but we typically do not staff a table on a Saturday. We would answer questions about the City, bus transportation, apartments, safety, restaurants, etc.

Lewis and Clark Community College's Open House is November 16.

Continental Convo: The Continental Convo formerly the Hashbrown Huddle is scheduled for October 20 at 9:30a.m. on the second floor of the Wildey Theatre. Chad reported that he will not be able to make that date, so someone will need to start up and wrap up the Continental Convo. Joel and Chad would like to nominate Karen, but we do not know if she will be available.

We need an agenda, format, estimates for catering and a mc. We have one more meeting prior to the event, so the estimate will have to done between now and the next meeting. Joel will look into 222 Artisan Bakery, Becca will check out Teaspoons Cafe, and Anna will get estimates from Panera for 50 to 60 people. MacKenzie hopefully has estimates from Goshen Coffee.

Joel Hardman made a motion to approve spending not more than $500 for the Continental Convo food and beverages. Kelly Oberneufemann second the motion and all were in favor.

Other Business

Rotary Student of the Month: Liz was not present to report.

New ideas for Community Traditions, Bring Campus into the Edwardsville Community Ideas, and Bring Edwardsville Community to Campus Ideas: Kelly Oberneufemann thought potential job shadowing in businesses would be worth exploring.

Next meeting: The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 5 p.m. in the Governor Edwards Conference Room at City Hall.

Adjournment: Joel Hardman made a motion to adjourn, Tim Bell seconded the motion and all were in favor. The meeting adjourned at 6:03 p.m.
