State Senator Erica Harriss partnered with the Crisis Food Center and Meridian Illinois on Tuesday to distribute 150 turkeys and hams ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The distribution event aimed to provide assistance to individuals in need during this festive season.

"Thanksgiving is a time to extend our blessings beyond our tables and lend a helping hand to those in need," remarked Senator Harriss. "By teaming up with Meridian and the Crisis Food Center, we were able to identify individuals across the area who could benefit from our distribution event."

Senator Harriss, along with representatives from both agencies, personally handed out the turkeys and hams to residents' vehicles at the Crisis Food Center. The distribution recipients were selected based on their specific needs. In total, 75 turkeys and 75 hams were given out free of charge, courtesy of Meridian Illinois.

Reflecting on the event, Senator Harriss expressed her gratitude saying, "Today was a great day! It's Thanksgiving week, and to see the smiles on residents' faces as we delivered their ham or turkey to them was an incredible feeling. I am grateful to be a part of this distribution event."

The free ham and turkey giveaways are part of a statewide initiative by Meridian Illinois Managed Care Plans leading up to Thanksgiving week.
