City of Edwardsville Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee met Nov. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Edwardsville Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee was held at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall located at 118 Hillsboro Avenue in Edwardsville, Illinois.

I. ROLL CALL:

II. PUBLIC COMMENT: None.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Stacy made a motion to approve the minutes of October 4, 2023; second by Hume. Motion passed unanimously.

IV. OLD BUSINESS: 

a. BPAC Membership Update - Provided an update. Jo would like to have an updated directory of all of BPAC members sent out so they can contact one another.

b. Election of Officers: Discussion ensued about having election of officers annually. They discussed allowing everyone to vote on the officers via email and have it for a voting item at the next meeting. Jason Stacy moved to have Jo Gibson continue as Chair and that Susan Hume continues are Vice Chair, and Danielle Adair serves as secretary. Seconded by Greg Brumitt. All ayes. Motion approved.

c. BPAC Meeting Time Discussion- Consenus would be to shift to 5:30pm. Buncher will make sure that 5:30 on Wednesdays would be possible.

NEW BUSINESS 

a. Bike & Hike October 16th Meeting Update: This group is going to be the outside working group for the Bike and Hike Event. Brumitt, Buncher, and Gibson provided an overview that was discussed at this meeting. The group has a larger regional desire to expand this working group to the surrounding communities. BPAC cannot build the bike culture by themselves and they need more people to help out with all the initiatives. It was discussed that the event may change dates and the footprint of location on where the event is being held.

b. 2023 BPAC Goals – Review/Status/Report to City: BPAC discussed providing a working document of all the things that BPAC has changed.

c. 2024 BPAC Goals & Budget: BPAC would like to make more change for policy. They wanted to know what Public Works' future projects and how that relates to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan being enforced. Brumitt discussed the League application for the bronze designation and where we are at in meeting the silver goal. Buncher said that she could provide the application to get an idea of where we are lacking in some areas to try and work on getting to Silver.

Slow down Edwardsville is a policy example of something that BPAC would like to focus on. There was discussion on how to get a strategy for BPAC moving forward. Stacy discussed an idea on doing events in the summer with kids or during the school year to teach them have to be pedestrians/cyclists. It was decided that integrating bike/ped into schools is a goal for next year. Stacy provided a Bike Bus update for April 19, 26, May 3, May 10 school days. Megan Riechmann said she will do a ride with Cassens. There will be Liberty and Lincoln, Woodland, Columbus, and Cassens rides.

With no further business to discuss, Chairperson Gibson adjourned the meeting.
