City of Jerseyville City Council met Jan. 9.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Kevin Stork called the regular session of the Jerseyville City Council to order Tuesday, January 9TH at the Feyerabend Building beginning at 6:00 p.m.  

ROLL CALL 

Present were Commissioners Anthony Steckel, Steve Pohlman, John Miles, and Mayor Stork. Commissioner Zachary Crawford was absent. City Attorney William Strang was present. City Clerk Denise Hayes took minutes.  

Comm. Pohlman led the opening prayer and pledge of allegiance was recited. 

MINUTES 

A motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Pohlman, to approve the minutes from the regular meeting held Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried. 

BILLS 

A motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Miles, to approve the bills as presented for January 9, 2024, in the amount of $498,293.12. Comm. Steckel noted this payout included the first pay request for expenses related to the City Hall renovations. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays,  motion carried.  

NEW BUSINESS 

A. Presentation of Service Awards – Mayor Stork announced the following individuals earning service awards for 2023, 2021, and 2020:

Michelle Niemeyer, Clerk’s/Telecommunicator, 15 Years

B. A motion was made by Comm. Miles, seconded by Comm. Steckel, to approve the 2023 fire report as presented by Fire Chief Keith Norman. Chief Norman reported there were 117 calls in 2023 and  there are currently nineteen volunteer firefighters on the roster. A total combined training hours of all firefighters of 72.5 hours was completed. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion  carried. 

Chief Norman recognized Kyle Fessler, Chris Collins, and Shaun Isringhausen and presented certificates to them for their response and acts of heroism of a fire at a multi-level dwelling at Jersey Manor Apartments on South Liberty on December 5, 2023.  

C. A motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Miles, to approve authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign a lease with Illinois American Water Company for the maintenance shop which includes exhibits A and B for a term not to exceed two years. Mayor Stork explained the  area being leased is part of the building located on Maple Summit Road that was formally owned by  the City for the Water and Sewer Department and near the existing City owned fire range. The Police Department will be utilizing the leased space for training. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried. 

OTHER BUSINESS  

Mayor Stork announced registration is still being held for Parks and Rec Daddy/Daughter Dance for ages 3-12 to be held at the Susnig Complex Feb 16th, 17th, and 18th. Deadline to register is February 3rd. 

PUBLIC COMMENT: None. 

ADJOURNMENT: Being no other business to be discussed, a motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Pohlman, to adjourn the meeting at 6:10 p.m. Roll call vote showed all voted aye,  no nays, motion carried.
