City of Collinsville Historic Preservation Commission met Aug. 7

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

A. CALL TO ORDER:

Chair Hines called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM

B. ROLL CALL

Present: Larry Shasteen, Lois Metzger, Lavadna Hines, Scott Rayho, Kathy Ulkus,

Alene Hill

Absent: Erik Illies

Also Present: Associate Planner - Joseph Williamson; Community Development

Director – Travis Taylor

C. SPEAKERS FROM THE FLOOR

None

D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Motion to approve minutes of the Jul 3, 2024, meeting – Scott Rayho moved to approve the minutes of the July 3, 2024, meeting, seconded by Larry Shasteen. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

E. DISCUSSION

1. Scoop Articles and Timelines

Staff outlined the release cadence of Scoop articles and weekly and quarterly scoops. From the information brainstormed previously, staff believes they have enough to feed future articles.

2. Potential Speakers for HPC

Staff and the commission discussed bringing speaker Dr. Joe Weber of SIUE to meet with the commission and residents. Staff and the commission discussed other speakers which may be identified through memberships and other local organizations , such as the Madison County Historical Society.

H. STAFF REPORT

1. Updates on:

1. Landmark Shortlist Leters

2. Uptown Signage

3. Columbian School

4. Uptown Event Center – No Update

Staff gave a brief update regarding landmark notices, stating that staff would attempt to make contact. Staff also provided an update on the attempt to get Uptown Signage changed out before Italian Fest. Staff also noted that staff is exploring options with the Columbian School, including its potential demolition.

I. COMMENTS FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS

1. Friends of DD Collins House

Hines provides an update on the fence replacement and the new native plantings at the house. Hines notes that the Friends of DD Collins house paid for the House’s exterior improvements.

2. Lois’ Landmark Spotlight

Lois provides an update on Belvederes and the Becker House.

K. ADJOURNMENT: Larry Shasteen moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Alene Hill. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote. Adjournment at 7:00 PM
