Rep. Charlie Meier has emphasized the importance of Fire Prevention Week, urging individuals to take proactive measures to mitigate fire risks in their homes and communities. "It's Fire Prevention Week, let's all take concrete action towards eliminating the threat of fires in our homes and communities. Every small action is a step towards saving lives and keeping people safe," stated Meier.

Meier highlighted that numerous local fire departments are organizing open houses during this period. He expressed gratitude for the dedication of volunteer fire departments within the 109th District, acknowledging their commitment to public safety. "Many of the local fire departments are holding open houses," he noted. "I am so thankful for our local volunteer fire departments here in the 109th District. These people give of their own time and will drop everything to help those in need."

He further recognized the personal sacrifices made by these volunteers, who often spend time away from family and friends to attend training sessions aimed at improving their emergency response skills. Meier encouraged community members to show appreciation for their efforts: "This is time away from their families and friends. Many take time to attend trainings, so they are better equipped for emergencies. I hope everyone will take a little time to show their appreciation to our local fire departments."

During Fire Prevention Week, Meier visited the Okawville Fire Department and engaged with its chief, underscoring his support for local firefighting initiatives.
