FOIA Request Sent to City Of Troy Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City Of Troy Finance Department on October 31, 2024. The request, made by Metro East Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks information about sales tax records in the city.

Specifically, we are seeking a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. The requested data includes the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each business during this period.

In addition to this detailed breakdown, we have also requested for the total amount of sales tax that the city collected from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024.

As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to these public records is crucial for our reporting. This information will enable us to provide comprehensive coverage on local government financial matters and ensure that public institutions are held accountable.

We have asked for these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140), preferably in electronic format. We have also indicated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information to the public.

The City Of Troy Finance Department has yet to respond or provide any comments regarding this FOIA request.
