FOIA Request Sent to City Of Jerseyville Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City Of Jerseyville Finance Department on October 31, 2024. The request, sent by Metro East Sun, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought specific information regarding city sales tax.

The records requested under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140 were primarily focused on sales tax paid by businesses in the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. Specifically, we asked for a list of businesses that paid sales tax during this period with details including the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid.

Additionally, we also requested information about the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within this same timeframe. This data is critical for our ongoing investigation into local governmental financial practices and will provide valuable insight into the economic health of our community.

As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us at Metro East Sun. We believe that as media professionals engaged in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver.

We look forward to cooperating with the City Of Jerseyville Finance Department in obtaining this crucial information and will continue our mission of providing comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
