A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Madison City Council on October 15, 2024. The request, made by us at Metro East Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks specific information about the city council members.
The details requested include the names of all council members, their titles, the year they were appointed, their term length (2 or 4 years), and the date when their term expires. This information is crucial for our reporting as it allows us to keep the public informed about who is serving in their local government and for how long.
As a media organization, we rely heavily on access to public records to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information.
