FOIA Request Sent to Troy City Council Regarding Council Members' Information on October 15, 2024

FOIA Request to Troy City Council Regarding Comprehensive Information of All Council Members on October 15, 2024.

In a recent development, we at Metro East Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have sent an official request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Troy City Council. The request was made for records pertaining to all council members currently serving in the city's government.

The information requested includes the name and title of each council member, along with their year of appointment. Additionally, we have asked for details regarding their term length (whether it is two or four years), as well as the date when their current term expires.

As a media organization, our primary role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records such as these is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the general public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.

We await a response from the Troy City Council and will continue our efforts in providing comprehensive coverage on local governmental affairs.
