A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Edwardsville's City Council on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at Metro East Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request seeks detailed information about the city council members. Specifically, we asked for a list of all council members with the following fields: their names, titles, the year they were appointed, their term length (2 or 4 years), and the date when their term expires.
As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to these public records is crucial for our work. This information will enable us to provide our readers with an in-depth understanding of their local government representatives.
We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
