Michael Butler, Chair of the St. Clair County Republicans, has criticized Governor J.B. Pritzker's policies, stating, "Gov. JB Pritzker may call himself a 'happy warrior' standing up to Trump, but his policies are the real danger to Illinois."
"Gov. JB Pritzker may call himself a “happy warrior” standing up to Trump, but his policies are the real danger to Illinois," said Butler. "Sky-high taxes, mounting debt, and poor management under Democratic leadership are pulling the state into deeper crises. These policies drive residents away and make it harder for Illinois families to thrive. The truth is, Pritzker's leadership isn't saving Illinois—it's sinking it."
During a press conference on November 7, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker addressed concerns regarding the potential impact of President-Elect Donald Trump's second term on the state. "To anyone who intends to come take away the freedom and opportunity and dignity of Illinoisans: I would remind you that a happy warrior is still a warrior. You come for my people, you come through me," Pritzker said, according to The Hill.
Republicans in Illinois have expressed concerns about issues they believe require Pritzker's attention. One such issue is the alleged exodus of residents from the state. However, Deputy Governor Andy Manar refuted these claims during a panel discussion with the Better Government Association. Manar said, "There has never been more people living in the state of Illinois than there is today," as reported by The Center Square.
In June, Governor Pritzker signed a $53.1 billion budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, which he described as a demonstration of fiscal responsibility. According to Capitol News Illinois, this budget includes an addition of $198 million to the state's rainy-day fund and full payments into the pension system. It also provides tax credits for low-income families and higher wages for workers assisting disabled individuals.
Butler was elected Chair of the St. Clair County Republicans in 2024 and aims to increase Republican voter turnout and membership while effectively communicating party positions on key issues.
