State Representative Charlie Meier, a Republican from Okawville, issued a statement in response to Governor JB Pritzker's virtual Budget Address presented to the Illinois General Assembly.

Meier criticized the budget proposal, calling it "the largest budget proposal in Illinois history" and expressing concern about its impact on taxpayers. He stated, “Today, Governor Pritzker showed just how out-of-touch he is with everyday Illinoisans." Meier further commented on what he sees as reckless spending and misplaced priorities by saying, "Make no mistake about it- the taxpayers are going to be on the hook for his reckless spending and upside-down priorities."

Drawing from his experience as a farmer, Meier emphasized the importance of financial prudence during challenging times. He said, “I’m a farmer, and I know that when times are tough you have to cinch your belt to make ends meet.” According to Meier, instead of addressing government waste and tax burdens or balancing the budget, Governor Pritzker deflected responsibility onto former President Trump during what Meier described as a "bizarre campaign rally."

Meier also expressed dissatisfaction with funds being allocated to Chicago. He claimed this decision would exacerbate immigration issues linked to Democratic policies: "This budget proposal once again sends more tax dollars to the Sanctuary City of Chicago to further perpetuate the immigration catastrophe that Democrats have put upon our country and state."

He concluded by criticizing Pritzker's lack of solutions for protecting vulnerable populations and fostering economic growth through reforms: "Instead of proposing solutions that would protect our intellectually and developmentally disabled, grow our economy through reform and good policy, and reduce costs through agency efficiency," Meier argued that Pritzker’s plan would lead Illinois towards fiscal mismanagement.
