City of O'Fallon Historic Preservation Committee met Nov. 6

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Opening

1.1. Valerie Hancock called the meeting to order at 6:33pm

1.2. Roll Call

Present:, Cameron Luster, Shannan Mason, Steve Brown, Julie Spengler, Valerie

Hancock, Chad Schwarz, and Doug Distler

Excused absence: Curt Schildknecht, Mark Kampen

City Representative Ryan Auer Attending

Public: None

1.3. Approval of September 3, 2024, Minutes

Distler made a motion to approve, Schwarz seconded.

Ayes, September Minutes approved

No October meeting due to City Hall schedule change for minutes.

2. New Business

2.1 Recruiting new commission members

General discussion suggestions offered; members will reach out to individuals.

3. Old business.

3.1 City Marshall Benjamin B. Schmitt.

Planning dedication delayed due to structural incompatibility between the plaque and station house.

Discussion on potential alternative dates – “Home for the Holidays,” December 14, 2024

3.2 History Walk Event Recap

Comment on the event and its success presented by Hancock, Distler and Brown.

4. Public Comments

4.1. Comment - Steve Brown presented the possibility of a history of O’Fallon via “two houses two families” tour. Where the public would tour the two buildings and the OHPC  could provide context and history of the structure and families. This would be the event in place of the history walk ‘tour’ conducted by OHPC next October.

5. Close

5.1 Motion to close at 7:05 by Mason, second by Schwartz - Meeting closed.
