Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost released a statement following the announcement by Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Doug Collins regarding the decision not to pursue a large-scale reduction-in-force for VA staff.
Chairman Bost expressed his confidence in Secretary Collins and the Trump administration's handling of potential workforce reductions at the VA. "From the very beginning I have long said that I had full confidence in Secretary Collins and the Trump administration to make the right decision surrounding any plans to reduce VA’s workforce," stated Chairman Bost. He criticized those who preemptively criticized potential plans before they were finalized.
Chairman Bost emphasized his commitment to working with Secretary Collins and President Trump to implement meaningful changes within the VA. "The status quo is not cutting it, and we will continue to cut through the nonsense and restore common sense at the agency to put veterans first and ultimately make the delivery of care and benefits work better," he said.
He also highlighted the importance of accountability among VA employees, noting that while most serve veterans proudly, underperforming staff must be held accountable. "We will ensure this message is clear, not just through words – but also through action," added Chairman Bost.
