The Illinois State Police have announced the tragic loss of Trooper Clay Carns, who was killed in a vehicle crash. The incident occurred due to a driver violating Scott's Law, which mandates that motorists move over when approaching emergency vehicles with activated lights.

"We are devastated by the news that we have lost another Illinois State Trooper to a vehicle crash caused by the violation of Scott’s Law," stated an official release. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Trooper Clay Carns during this difficult time."

Scott's Law is designed to protect first responders on roadways by requiring drivers to change lanes or reduce speed when nearing stationary emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights.
