I hope your 2025 is off to a good start! I’ve been busy at work for the hardworking people of the 109th district and wanted to share an update with you on what I’ve been up to.

On Wednesday, January 8th, a representative took the oath of office and was sworn in to continue representing the 109th district. "I am humbled and grateful for the trust that the people of the 109th District have placed in me," said the representative. They vowed to be a leader who fights for constituents' needs, especially in Southern Illinois.

In December, Illinois State Trooper Clay M. Carns was fatally struck by a vehicle while addressing debris on southbound I-55 near Channahon. The incident violated Scott’s Law, which mandates vehicles move over for emergency or hazard lights. Trooper Carns had served with the Illinois State Police for 11 years and lived in Orland Park with his family. "I rose to honor his life and service on the House floor," stated the representative.

Funding issues were reported last year regarding BCMW's Meals on Wheels program. Efforts are underway with local, state, and federal leaders to resolve this. A temporary funding release occurred, but long-term solutions remain elusive. The representative proposed diverting $50 million from illegal migrant welcome centers to underfunded Meals on Wheels programs.

Visits to Murray Center have been frequent over recent months as various issues like dental care and staffing are addressed.

Constituents expressed concerns about rising taxes, particularly affecting seniors and those on fixed incomes. Illinois property taxes are noted as among the highest nationally. House Republicans proposed legislation targeting tax reductions for seniors, groceries, and home-delivered meals.

Energy bills have reportedly increased due to legislative changes like the Clean Energy Jobs Act. Recent energy bills passed during Veto session could further impact rates. "I debated the Democrats on the floor," shared the representative.

House rules faced criticism after being introduced shortly before voting; they allegedly favor preserving power rather than serving Illinois residents effectively. The rules package allows tactics previously used by former House Speaker Michael Madigan, who faces corruption charges.

January is National Blood Donor Month, prompting encouragement from a lifelong donor who has given 142 pints of blood: "I encourage everyone to give blood this January."

The representative spent Christmas on their farm with family members attending St. Peter’s Church in Okawville where Sam Roethemeyer preached.

Residents facing issues with state agencies are invited to contact their office for assistance amidst ongoing winter weather conditions.
