Rep. Charlie Meier addressed the Illinois House of Representatives on World Cancer Day, emphasizing the significance of cancer screening and early detection. He stated, "On World Cancer Day, I want to shed light on the importance of screening and early detection of not only prostate cancer but ALL cancers." Meier highlighted that early-stage detection through screenings could contribute to reducing cancer mortality rates.

During his speech, Rep. Meier shared a personal connection with the disease, having been diagnosed with prostate cancer himself. He expressed gratitude for the support he received following his diagnosis and noted, "Today, I am 22 days into my radiation, and it is going well."

Meier urged individuals affected by cancer to share their experiences and join efforts to improve care and work towards eradicating the disease. He also acknowledged contributions from organizations such as the Illinois Department of Public Health and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network in supporting cancer education and legislative initiatives.

He concluded by calling for collective action in advancing research and expanding access to screenings: "As I continue along this journey, I am excited to learn more about what we can do right here in Illinois to move toward a world where we have a cure."
