House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost met with Darin Selnick, a senior advisor to the Department of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The meeting focused on enhancing the partnership between the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to improve the transition process for servicemembers moving from active duty to civilian life.

Chairman Bost emphasized the importance of a seamless transition for those who have served in uniform. He stated, “Under my leadership, we have made clear that our nation’s fighting force has earned a seamless transition from active-duty to civilian life in exchange for their service in uniform.” He noted that despite significant investment in the Transition Assistance Program, feedback from servicemembers and veterans indicates it is not meeting expectations.

Bost expressed optimism about working with Selnick and highlighted the need for collaboration between DoD and VA. “I was pleased to meet with Defense Secretary Hegseth’s advisor in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel & Readiness, Mr. Darin Selnick, today to discuss how we can get DoD and VA working better together to improve this transition,” he said.

The discussion aimed at ensuring that servicemembers, veterans, and their families receive effective support during their transition, regardless of their location. Bost concluded by affirming that they deserve a program providing necessary tools to achieve success after military service.
