U.S. Attorney Rachelle L. Crowe | U.S. Department of Justice
Rachelle Aud Crowe, who has served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, has stepped down from her role. Her departure was effective February 18. Crowe expressed her gratitude in a statement:
“It has been my honor to serve the Southern District of Illinois as the United States Attorney. Announcing my departure accompanies many emotions, but my heart is full of gratitude." She added that working for the Department of Justice and leading a team of talented attorneys and staff had been a lifelong dream.
During her tenure, Crowe partnered with local, state, and federal law enforcement to seek justice for victims and improve public safety. The office prosecuted numerous criminal cases and recovered millions in taxpayer dollars through civil lawsuits.
Crowe reflected on her time at the federal courthouses: "I will cherish the time I spent at the federal courthouses. I’m thankful to the district judges for their judicial oversight; it’s been my honor to work with and learn from them."
Her contributions were acknowledged by several law enforcement officials. FBI Springfield Special Agent in Charge Christopher Johnson said, “From the beginning, USA Crowe has been a champion of the FBI mission.” He credited her efforts in making communities safer.
Michael Davis from the Drug Enforcement Administration St. Louis Division praised her partnership in combating drug threats across Southern Illinois: “She’s been a tremendous partner and we’re grateful for her service.”
Illinois State Police Director Brendan F. Kelly highlighted Crowe's support for their Public Safety Enforcement Group: "U.S. Attorney Crowe supported our Public Safety Enforcement Group...bringing charges and winning convictions."
Shannon Hamm from ATF expressed gratitude for Crowe's dedication: “United States Attorney Rachelle Crowe has been an engaged and dedicated law enforcement partner.”
Ali M. Summers now serves as Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois after joining as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2012.
