Recently, a bill was introduced offering pregnant women the opportunity to have an ultrasound before proceeding with an abortion. "The Ultrasound Opportunity Act is about giving expecting mothers the opportunity to see the precious life growing inside them," it was stated. Concerns were raised about Illinois being a pro-abortion state, where "it’s possible for a woman to have an abortion on demand, with taxpayer dollars, without parental consent." The bill, HB1129, is pending legislative action.
Governor Pritzker's budget address last week faced criticism. It was described as "the largest budget proposal in Illinois history" and concerns were expressed that taxpayers would bear the burden of what was called "reckless spending and upside-down priorities." The critique included comments on government waste and tax burdens. It was suggested that instead of addressing these issues, Governor Pritzker "decided to hold a bizarre campaign rally," deflecting blame onto former President Trump. The budget proposal's focus on Chicago as a Sanctuary City and its implications for immigration policies were also criticized.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced that applications for the Volunteer Fire Assistance Program are open until April 14th. More information can be found through their provided link.
In other activities, visits to local establishments like Berkemann’s Baker’s Dozen in New Baden were highlighted. Participation in community events such as a breakfast at Thole Farm and a chicken dinner in Hoyleton were noted. Additionally, being a guest speaker at the Illinois Meat Processors Association's 50th Anniversary event was mentioned, where HR 84 was presented.
Personal updates included news about twins born recently who are doing well.
"Have a great week, 109th District!" concluded the update.
