House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost delivered opening remarks at the second of three annual joint House and Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs hearings. The session focused on legislative priorities, concerns, and initiatives for veterans, their families, and survivors. Testimonies were heard from organizations including The American Legion, MVA, JWV, NACVSO, MOAA, NASDVA, IVMF, and WWP.

Chairman Bost welcomed his Senate colleagues Chairman Moran and Ranking Member Blumenthal. He acknowledged visitors from Illinois and expressed gratitude to Mr. James LaCoursiere Jr., National Commander of The American Legion, for attending.

Bost emphasized the importance of serving veterans through effective legislation: "Our work here on the committee is greatly assisted by their dedication to the mission." He highlighted personal connections to veterans in his family and community as a driving force behind his commitment.

He noted that despite accomplishments in the last Congress, challenges remain: "Veterans should have the freedom to use the benefits V.A. offers in exchange for their service to meet their individual needs."

Bost promised continued efforts to improve services: "You have my commitment that as long as I’m in charge... we will continue to fight for you – and the voices you represent."

The chairman praised progress made with legislation like the Dole Act and expressed appreciation for support from The American Legion regarding new measures such as the Restore Accountability Act of 2025.

In conclusion, Bost reiterated his dedication: "I promise to keep up the fight we are all in together."
