Ray Wesley, chairman of the Madison County Republicans, said that President Trump's address to Congress championed a vision for a stronger, self-reliant nation driven by economic growth and America-first policies. Wesley made his statement to Metro East Sun on March 6.

"President Trump's address to Congress delivered a bold and unapologetic vision for a thriving America, prioritizing economic growth, limited government, and real solutions to inflation," said Wesley. "While Democrats attempted to derail his message with protests and disruptions, their partisan antics could not erase the urgency or clarity of his plan. From cutting bureaucratic waste to lowering everyday costs, Trump remains committed to policies that uplift hardworking Americans. His leadership stands as a beacon of strength, guiding the nation toward a future built on prosperity and self-determination."

According to Fox News, President Trump delivered his first major speech to Congress in his second term, outlining his administration's priorities. He highlighted initiatives such as federal downsizing under Elon Musk and addressed inflation concerns, particularly rising grocery costs. The speech prompted partisan reactions—Republicans applauded while Democrats remained seated, holding signs reading "False." Trump cited examples of government waste and concluded with a call to action, expressing optimism for the country's future and declaring that a "golden age of America" was beginning.

In a March 5 post on its website, the White House reported on the reception of President Trump’s address before Congress. The White House said, "Tonight, during his first address to a joint session of Congress in his second term, President Donald J. Trump delivered a powerful, masterful speech highlighting the remarkable accomplishments of his first six weeks in office and charting a course for four years of prosperity. The address received widespread acclaim. 76% of Americans approved of the speech, according to a CBS poll, while a CNN poll showed 69% of Americans had a positive reaction."

Wesley was first elected Chairman of the Madison County Republican Party in October 2019. He is focused on communicating the Republican Party’s conservative values and issues that matter most to Madison County voters. His primary responsibilities include fundraising and growing the party’s membership along with boosting voter turnout. Ray Wesley and his wife reside in Godfrey.
