State Senator Erica Harriss has filed extensions on several bills aimed at tax relief for Illinois residents. Her legislation, recently assigned to the Revenue Committee, seeks to alleviate the financial burdens on residents across the state.
"High taxes are a constant concern for the people I represent, who are struggling to pay their bills and raise their families," Harriss stated. "Providing tax relief is a top priority for me, and I will continue to advocate for legislation that eases the burden on Illinois residents."
Two key bills have received an extension for a committee deadline. Senate Bill 2086 proposes to raise income eligibility for the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption to $75,000, with future increases tied to inflation. Senate Bill 2095 suggests an increase in the general homestead exemption to $10,000 for the tax year 2025 in all counties. From 2026 onward, this exemption will adjust automatically based on inflation, increasing by the lesser of 5% or the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase.
Harriss emphasized that her proposals are crafted to reduce the financial strain on Illinois families and support local economies. "Illinois families deserve meaningful relief, and I am proud to put forward practical solutions that can make a real difference," she concluded.
