State Representative Kevin Schmidt has named Donna Mae’s Beauty Salon as his "Business of the Month" for April, following submissions from across the 114th District. The salon, a fixture in Mascoutah, Illinois for over sixty years, was recognized for its longstanding service to the community.

Schmidt commended Donna Mae Schlueter, the owner, noting, "Donna Mae’s Beauty Salon has been committed to serving locals with salon services and products for over sixty years. Donna has exemplified her dedication to the community of Mascoutah along with her grandfather and great grandfather who served as blacksmiths. She deserves recognition for operating a 'hometown' salon, but also for her service to the community through positive engagement."

The salon has been operational since 1965 and has evolved over the years to include various modern haircare products and services, catering to the changing needs of local residents. In addition to her business operations, Schlueter is actively involved in community development. She serves as the Chairperson of the Economic Development Commission in Mascoutah and is involved in promoting commercial, industrial, and residential growth. She has also been associated with the Mascoutah Chamber of Commerce for four decades, and she was the first woman to lead both the Chamber and the Main Street Program. Additionally, Schlueter was the first female member of the city board.

Schmidt emphasized the importance of local businesses, saying, "The small-town mom and pop shops such as Donna Mae’s Beauty Salon, helps keep our economy moving and creates a bond with local residents."
