U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited Springfield, Illinois, on Wednesday to criticize the state's sanctuary policies that protect undocumented immigrants. During her visit, she argued that these policies have led to increased violence against American citizens, including crimes such as rape and murder, while allowing those responsible to avoid consequences.

State Representative Kevin Schmidt commented on the issue: “Illinois’ failed sanctuary state policies must end now. I Co-Sponsored HB1317 that would repeal the ‘TRUST Act’. It’s past due to put Illinois families first, and to improve public safety.”

Secretary Noem also criticized Governor Pritzker for allocating $1.6 billion in taxpayer funds to expand healthcare services for undocumented immigrants. She noted that the State of Illinois offers better healthcare benefits to illegal immigrants than what most Illinois families receive.

Additionally, it was highlighted that at least $820 million has been spent addressing Chicago's migrant crisis. In total, over $3 billion has been directed towards services for migrants and illegal immigrants, which Secretary Noem contrasted with the underfunding of services for vulnerable citizens in Illinois.

With more than half a million undocumented immigrants residing in Illinois, Secretary Noem suggested collaboration with the Trump Administration to deport dangerous criminal aliens. The Republican stance is focused on advocating for legislation and a state budget prioritizing the needs of working families and seniors in Illinois over those of illegal immigrants.
