Rep. Mike Bost, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Illinois’ 12th district, has recently addressed several key issues through his social media posts. Bost, who succeeded Gerald Hawkins in 2015 and has a long history of public service, shared his thoughts on matters ranging from drug policy to agricultural priorities and legislation concerning minors.
On June 4, 2025, Rep. Mike Bost highlighted the issue of fentanyl as a leading cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 45. He attributed part of the problem to policies during the Biden administration while referencing past legislative efforts under President Trump: "Fentanyl is one of the leading causes of death for Americans aged 18 to 45, and this dangerous drug flowed into our country during the Biden administration. Back in 2018, President Trump signed into law the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, which helps fight fentanyl".
The following day, on June 5, 2025, Bost reported on a meeting with members of the National Grain and Feed Association. He noted that participants included Samuel Glenn from Eldorado and Austin McWhorter from Effingham. The discussion focused on Farm Bill priorities and conservation programs: "I had a productive meeting with members of the National Grain and Feed Association, including two Southern Illinoisans – Samuel Glenn from Eldorado and Austin McWhorter from Effingham. We discussed priorities for the Farm Bill and the need for smart conservation programs that".
On June 6, 2025, Rep. Bost announced his support for legislation aimed at protecting minors from certain medical procedures related to gender transition. He expressed concerns about potential health impacts: "I am cosponsoring the Protecting Children from Experimentation Act to put a stop to dangerous gender transition procedures on minors like puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. These procedures can do permanent damage to their physical and mental health."
Mike Bost has been active in political service since he joined Jackson County Board in 1984 before moving onto roles such as serving in Illinois House of Representatives until joining Congress in representing Illinois' Districts.
