The Cavins Center had a soft opening on May 20 with the Chamber Salute to Business Awards event the facility is operational and currently hosting our summer camp. Just a few minor construction items remain.
Plaza and outdoor pavilion will be completed within a week, weather dependent. The restrooms are waiting on fixtures and should open next month.
Hesse Park Pickleball Courts windscreen update: The windscreen for the pickleball courts were ordered long ago. They are custom size, so they take longer to get than a standard windscreen.
They should be here and installed next week assuming a timely delivery.
The Family Sports Park North Parking Lot Phase 2 update: Currently with the engineering firm for design and should go out to bid late June or early July. Parking lot lights are also in the design phase and will be bid the same time as the parking lot.
4: Public Comments
4.1 Sports Park Concession Sales for 2024 (January to December): Malare asked are the staffing funds used to pay your soccer and baseball referees? Dallner: no this is just for staffing to run and to sell the food from the concession stands. Malare asked so you have another fund for that money? Dallner: Yes.
Construction Update: Fohne: When will the bathrooms be open at the weekends?
Dallner: Presently not opened to the public until the Access Control has been completed.
Denton: Are the old bathrooms that are being renovated open yet? Dallner: No those are not open yet, the ones by Blazier Fields are open. We have some long lead times for the fixtures, etc. As soon as fixtures in they will be completed, maybe another 4 weeks.
Campbell: Concerned that the parking lot from the new KCCC slopes off rapidly into the alley, concerned that there may be flooding into resident’s garages/back yards when we get a heavy rain. Dallner: We have looked at it a lot over the last few weeks. The alley hasn’t changed so whatever water hits the alley prior to construction should be the same.
The south side of the alley funnels back down into the parking lot and the last row of landscape areas funnels down into a swale, that swale heads to a covert on the west side and is then funneled back to drainage and then to the sewer. There is a natural swale in the parking lot that carries the water away. There should not be any difference to the alley, I did check there after last weeks rain and apart from normal puddles of water I did not see any issues. I heard today that one resident said it did flood but have not been able to talk to the resident to see if it was worse, better or the same.
Parchman: Is the parking lot extension at the Family Sports Park going to connect to Porter or will it be one exit out or is it still to be determined? Dallner: This has been a big discussion with the engineers. We are concerned that if we do not put some sort of extra lane within the park to slow the traffic down to allow them to make the turn it could be a risk to walkers. We are looking at how to redesign it to protect walkers and ease traffic issues. We are doing a study right now. There will be a follow up.
Malare: Pool budget question, has there been any change orders? Dallner: The supplemental contingencies would include any change orders. Malare: If I asked to see how many change orders there were, would I be able to get the information? Dallner: I am happy to supply any documentation.
