City of Edwardsville Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met July 15 & 16

Here are the minutes provided by the commissioners:

A Special Meeting of the Board of Fire & Police Commissioners was called to order each day at 5:00 p.m. in the Training/Conference Room at the Edwardsville Public Safety Building with Chairman, John W. McCracken, presiding.

Commissioners Attending: John W. McCracken, John Cunningham, Mary Ann Harris and Roger L. Huber. Jean Hughes was absent because of a death in her family. Also Attending: Deputy Fire Chief Robert Morgan

Commissioner Cunningham made a Motion to adjourn to Closed Session for the purpose of conducting Oral Interviews to establish hiring eligibility from a list of Applicants to the rank of Probationary Firefighter-EMT. Commissioner Harris seconded the Motion which carried.

Fire Department: Prior to commencement of Oral Interviews, each of the Applicants successfully passed the Aerial Ladder Climb Test, and presented verification that they had passed their C-PAT.

On July 15, 2025, in "round-robin questioning fashion," Commissioners presented a list of interview questions to the following (7) individuals: Quinn Phillips, Brian Caldwell, Oren Baran, Nathan Kuhl, Jacob Milton, Michael Vaughn and Alex Thompson

At 8:50 pm, Commissioner Harris moved to suspend the Special Meeting until Wednesday, July 16,2025 at which time an additional list of Applicants will be tested. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the Motion which carried.

Prior to the resumption of Oral Interviews, it was reported that each of the Applicants had successfully passed the Ladder Climb Exercise and presented evidence of completing their C-PAT.

At 5:00 o'clock pm on July 15, 2025, Commissioner McCracken called this Special Meeting to order to resume conducting Oral Interviews in the same "round-robin questioning fashion" for the following list of (4) applicants. Aaron Hayes, A J Scheffel, Jacob DuRocher and Jacob Opel.

At 7:55 pm, Commissioner Harris arose from Closed Session and made a Motion to reconvene this Special Meeting in Open Session. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the Motion which carried by voice vote without dissent.

After further deliberations, Commissioner Harris moved to approve the following Preliminary List for Hiring Eligibility to the Edwardsville Fire Department for the rank of Firefighter-EMT. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the Motion, which carried unanimously.
