This week, Illinois State Representative Kevin Schmidt (R-Cahokia) visited several locations in the 114th District. The activities included a Coffee Talk event in New Athens, meetings with local officials and organizations, and discussions about community initiatives.

During the Coffee Talk event, Schmidt thanked attendees for their participation. "I appreciate everyone who attended this event, especially New Athens mayor Steven Newbold and Superintendent John Lawson from the Veterans Assistance Commission of St. Clair County," he said.

The visit to the New Athens Library highlighted recent grant funding that will support a summer reading program and additional events such as a petting zoo and movie nights through the end of the year.

Schmidt also met with Joel Pikora, director of Mascoutah Public Library, to discuss grants used for new computers and eBooks.

Other stops included Lucy’s Kitchen and Coffee and a meeting with City of Mascoutah Mayor.

In Washington Park, Schmidt met with Pastor Anthony Pettiford and first lady Tina Pettiford at House of Prayer to All Nations to learn about their community missions. "It was a pleasure to meet with Pastor Anthony Pettiford and first lady Tina Pettiford in Washington Park. I had the opportunity to learn more about their community missions and services that would benefit residents," Schmidt stated.

Schmidt has represented Illinois’ 114th House District since being elected in 2023 as a Republican, succeeding LaToya Greenwood.
