Mike Bost highlights votes on fentanyl legislation, energy rules rollback, suicide prevention

Rep. Mike Bost, U.S. Congressman for Illinois’ 12th district, shared updates this week on his recent legislative actions and public health awareness efforts through a series of posts on X.

On September 4, 2025, Bost announced his support for new measures targeting the fentanyl crisis: "I voted in favor of the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act this week to hold Chinese producers and officials accountable for the spread of illicit fentanyl. This legislation strengthens sanctions on those responsible and helps protect communities across Southern Illinois and our great".

The following day, Bost addressed energy policy decisions made by the Biden administration: "I voted this week to roll back three costly Biden administration energy rules that are driving up costs for working families and putting our energy security at risk. These measures will help reverse restrictions on American coal, oil, and gas production that have stifled jobs and" (September 5, 2025).

On September 6, Bost highlighted National Suicide Prevention Month and promoted resources available to those in crisis: "September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and it is an important reminder that help is always available. If you or someone you know is struggling, you can dial 988 to be connected with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. For our veterans, dialing 988 and then pressing 1 connects https://t.co/kxfgrii7Fl".

Mike Bost has represented Illinois’ 12th congressional district since first winning election in 2014 against William L. Enyart with a margin of approximately ten percentage points. He has subsequently won re-election in every cycle since then—defeating Charles Baricevic in 2016 (54.3% to 39.7%), Brendan Kelly in 2018 (51.6% to 45.4%), Raymond Lenzi in 2020 (60.4% to 39.7%), and Chip Markel in 2022 by a significant margin (75% to 25%).
