Illinois offers specialty military license plates for veterans across multiple service categories

Military license plates are available to Illinois veterans who have served in various branches and campaigns. The state offers a range of specialty plates recognizing service, including those for the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Air Force Service Cross, Armed Forces Reserves, Bronze Star, Coast Guard, Cold War, Combat Action Badge/Ribbon, Combat Infantryman, Congressional Medal of Honor, Disabled Veteran, Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Ex-Prisoner of War, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Gold Star families, Illinois National Guard members, Iraq Campaign Medal recipients, Korean Service and Korean War Veterans.

Additional options include plates for Legion of Merit honorees, Marine Corps and Navy Service Cross recipients, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm participants, Paratroopers, Pearl Harbor Survivors, POW/MIA Illinois Remembers program participants, Purple Heart recipients and Retired Armed Forces. There are also plates for Service-Connected Disabled Veterans (ISERVE), Silver Star recipients and United Nations Protection Force members. Plates are available for U.S. Air Force veterans, U.S. Army veterans and U.S. Navy veterans as well as Vietnam Veterans and Women Veterans. World War II Veterans can also obtain a plate.

Schmidt was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 as a Republican representing the 114th House District after replacing LaToya Greenwood.
