Rep. Mike Bost, Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and a member of the House Agriculture Committee, highlighted recent developments and local achievements in a series of posts on his official Twitter account this week.

On September 17, Bost shared an update regarding veterans' benefits, stating: "Great news from the Department of Veterans Affairs this week: the backlog of veterans waiting for benefits is down 45%. As Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I’ll keep working to build on this progress and ensure every veteran gets the care and support they have" (posted September 17, 2025).

The following day, he marked a significant military anniversary: "Happy 78th birthday to the United States Air Force. Here in Southern Illinois, we’re especially proud of Scott Air Force Base, which plays a vital role in our national defense and is one of our region’s largest employers. I’m grateful to the men and women of the Air Force and" (posted September 18, 2025).

Later on September 18, Bost addressed agricultural policy priorities after meeting with industry representatives: "I met with AmericanHort, which represents the nursery and greenhouse industry, to talk about priorities for the upcoming Farm Bill. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I’ll keep working to make sure the bill supports growers, strengthens our supply chains, and gives" (posted September 18, 2025).

Mike Bost has represented his district through multiple election cycles. In recent years he secured re-election by significant margins—defeating Chip Markel in 2022 with approximately 75% of votes cast; Raymond Lenzi in 2020 with over 60%; Charles Baricevic in 2016; William L. Enyart in 2014; and Brendan Kelly in 2018.

These posts reflect Bost's ongoing involvement with veterans' affairs oversight as well as engagement with both military communities such as Scott Air Force Base—a major employer in Southern Illinois—and agricultural stakeholders ahead of legislative activity on federal farm policy.
