State Senator Erica Harriss and State Representative Amy Elik have responded to US Steel's recent announcement that Granite City Works will resume processing steel slabs. This comes after an earlier statement from the company indicating that slab deliveries would stop by the end of October.
In a joint statement, Harriss and Elik said, “We are elated with US Steel’s decision to continue Granite City Works’ steel slab processing. This is a win. Thank you to the Trump Administration and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick for hearing our voices, and our outreach and advocacy will continue. We will not give up on a long-term solution to keep these jobs in Granite City. The fight continues.”
Senator Harriss, a Republican, was elected in 2023 to represent Illinois' 56th Senate District, succeeding Kris Tharp.
