Rep. Mike Bost, a U.S. Congressman who has consistently won reelection since 2014, posted several updates on his official X account regarding the ongoing government shutdown and the anniversary of the United States Naval Academy.

On October 9, 2025, Bost wrote about his participation in a press conference at the U.S. Capitol: "I joined Speaker Johnson in the U.S. Capitol this morning for a press conference on the Schumer Shutdown. I discussed the heavy burden our men and women in uniform face each day as the shutdown drags on. Veterans’ mental services, home care, and transition assistance for those".

Later that same day, Bost addressed concerns from constituents about government operations during the shutdown: "Despite the government shutdown, please know my offices remain open and ready to assist with federal casework. While there may be delays in responses from federal agencies at this time, we're here to help. If there's any way we can be of assistance, please reach out to my office" (October 9, 2025).

On October 10, 2025, Bost recognized a significant milestone for a military institution: "Today we celebrate 180 years of the United States Naval Academy developing leaders dedicated to serving our nation. I’m proud to cosponsor legislation recognizing this milestone and honoring the Midshipmen who carry on its proud tradition. Go Navy!"

Bost represents Illinois’s 12th congressional district and has maintained strong electoral support over multiple election cycles. In 2022, he defeated Chip Markel with 75% of the vote; in previous elections since 2014 he prevailed against various opponents by substantial margins.
