Rep. Mike Bost, U.S. Representative and Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, recently posted a series of tweets reflecting on significant milestones for the military and legislative action affecting veterans. His messages focused on commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps, honoring Veterans Day, and his vote to end what he described as the longest government shutdown in history.

On November 10, 2025, Bost acknowledged the Marine Corps' founding with a personal note: "Today marks the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps. For two and a half centuries, Marines have stood ready to defend our nation with courage, honor, and commitment. As a Marine, the father of a Marine, and the grandfather of a Marine, I couldn’t be prouder to".

The following day—Veterans Day—he addressed his dual roles as both a veteran and legislator: "As a Marine and Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Veterans Day is personal to me. It’s a time to honor those who put on the uniform and to recommit ourselves to the principles they fought to defend. In a world where threats to our freedom are growing, service" (November 11, 2025).

On November 13, Bost discussed recent congressional action regarding federal funding: "Tonight, I proudly voted to end the longest government shutdown in history. This Continuing Resolution will fund:

- The Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Agriculture, and military construction for a full year

- $263.7 billion for mandatory veterans' programs,".

Mike Bost has held his seat in Congress since defeating William L. Enyart in 2014 by winning 52.5% of votes compared to Enyart's 41.9%. He subsequently secured re-election in every cycle since then: against Charles Baricevic in 2016 (54.3% vs 39.7%), Raymond Lenzi in 2020 (60.4% vs 39.7%), Brendan Kelly in 2018 (51.6% vs 45.4%), and Chip Markel in 2022 with his largest margin yet—75% to Markel's 25%.
