With his bipartisan Equitable Access to Care and Health (EACH) Act clearing the House late last month, U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) hopes the Senate also will approve of his efforts to expand the religious conscience exemption under Obamacare.
The bill would protect the rights of anyone who relies only on religious methods for healing by exempting them from having to purchase health insurance or pay a tax penalty under Obamacare.
“Obamacare violates our most basic right of religious freedom by forcing people to buy health insurance against their faith or otherwise face a penalty,” Davis said. “The EACH Act broadens the religious exemption to ensure those who rely solely on a religious method of healing, like Christian Scientists, are not forced to purchase health insurance when these services violate their religious beliefs."
The issues is particularly important to Davis.
"As the representative of Principe College, the only Christian Scientist school in the country, I believe this legislation is vital to protecting the religious liberties of many of my constituents," he said.
Davis has now authored two bills aiding Americans who seek exemption from Obamacare.
The Hire More Heroes Act was signed into law this summer, allowing employers to exclude veterans who already receive health insurance through the U.S. Department of Defense from their list of employees who they must provide insurance to.
