Serve Illinois Commission to join #ILGive movement, raise millions for nonprofits.
The Serve Illinois Commission will join Forefront for the #ILGive campaign, a statewide, nonpartisan movement to support nonprofit communities in Illinois by increasing individual giving.
The #ILGive Campaign relies on the power of social media, creating a day of statewide support as part of the national #GivingTuesday campaign. Its goal is for Dec. 1 to become a day that citizens think of every year, just like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
“The holiday season is a time of giving,” Scott McFarland, executive director of Serve Illinois, said. “By donating to Illinois nonprofits on #GivingTuesday, we are helping to support our communities throughout the coming year.”
Last year, Forefront developed a campaign that helped 600 charitable organizations raise $4 million on #GivingTuesday. This year, the goal is set for $6 million.
“It’s been a privilege to work with remarkable leaders all over the state and country building a movement around #ILGive,” Eric Weinheimer, Forefront president and CEO, said. “We are excited to help shine light on causes and organizations that really keep our communities healthy, safe and stable.”
The Serve Illinois Commission is a 40-member, bipartisan board whose mission is to improve Illinois communities through volunteerism. Appointed by the governor and administered by the Illinois Department of Public Health, it looks to instill an ethic of service throughout Illinois.
